Where do I go from here? ~8k for a daily

So this week I've had a really good offer on my M135i which I'm debating. The trouble is, I love the thing. It's fast, it's comfortable, it's practical, it's got all the features I could ever want, it's got the whole M performance catalogue so carbon fibre bits, suede wheel, LSD, exhaust and its also got basically every factory upgrade that's desirable. It's just an awesome daily (or the best I've had in my 28 summers coming from various JDM s
tboxes) and it ticks all the boxes.
Problem is I'm a fiend and my vice is swapping cars every 6 months so I'm thinking about maybe selling up, getting a daily that ticks all the boxes for a daily and then have a project car alongside (mx5, 182 etc) and still have change to stick some in the bank for what is surely gonna be an expensive few years.
So say for example I had 8k to play with, what would you recommend? I'm quite open to what the boxes are to be ticked, I've looked at the following: golfs, kugas, legacys, bmw estates, mazda 6s, jimnys, focus', a1s, a3 estates, diesel versions of my 1 series, freelander 2's and so on so that should give an idea of how wide I'm thinking.
Preferably either something from the practical, economical basket or the practical interesting basket. Open to literally all ideas but must look atleast somewhat decent pulling up to dinner with the in-laws for example as my second car probably wont! Decent mod cons like cruise control etc would be ideal too but again, open to suggestions.
I also have a work vehicle which gets used Mon-Fri so this is just a social daily, trips away with the girlfriend, visiting family and friends etc so something that could do both motorway comfortably and getting dirty on the country roads would be nice.

530d is the answer, the 535d is disproportionately more expensive.
The 530d can be mapped to in excess of 300bhp easily enough at reasonable costs.
Id say the estate is plenty practical.
You will retain the BMW familiarity but gain economy and practicality at the cost of some nimbleness and pace

I did consider them, the problem is I'm not familiar with BMW at all in terms of their range, only my car. What are they like on 100k+ miles? Reliability an issue with diesel BMWs?
