335d X Drive Warm Up Time??
Discussion
My Mercedes is in for repair. When we had those storms recently a tree fell narrowly missed the bonnet. A new bumper, headlight, and new alloy wheel were on order. Just got around to getting it booked in.
The bodyshop/insurance provided a 335d x drive. I must say it was quite nice. Torque everywhere.
It took a 30 minute and 15 mile commute to get the oil up to temperature. It was a mix of 40/50/60 A-B roads. Ambient temperature being around 10 C. Is this normal for these engines?
Curious non-BMW owner.
It’s a 2018 if that helps.

My 335d takes a good 15 minutes/10 miles to get to a settled oil temperature. I have seen graphs posted on here that show very good oil performance at lower oil temperatures, assuming it is running the recommended oil. Certainly at 75 deg C oil temp, it should be capable of high throttle loads, but why not wait, it is not a town car.

Great to know. I would have thought it has to be at 120 C or whatever it settled at. I guess these huge blocks must take up a while to heat soak. May be it’s because all the work is done with lower torque they need a lot longer. Fantastic car though. Yes not one for the town!Gassing Station | BMW General | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
