Looking for a 4 sleeper motorhome around the 12 to 15k budget maybe a bit more. I’m happy doing almost all mechanical and diy work day for the exception of bigger stuff like clutch change etc so older vans don’t worry me.

Plan is lots of little trips this year leading to a big euro tour with the kids next year for a few months.

Any recommendations?

Is damp a common issue?

Been looking at auto sleepers to avoid damp but there is more choice in the standard construction types.

Damp is the big issue almost everything else is secondary but the fiat/Peugeot are suffering major chassis rot and gearbox issues too now.
Autosleeper monocoques are good but the egg shape means they are 2 plus 2 little ones at best bar possibly the Ford based Amethyst.
Not all Autosleeper are monocoques too Pollensa etc were standard build.
Personally I'd look at old euro vans like Hymer, Burstner and even old C.I and Rollerteam which actually weren't bad in the late 90s it's the mid 00s they became rot boxes

Cheers for the reply. Not fussed about space in the van for sleeping we will have some sort of sleeper tent for either us or the kids.

I like the look of some of those you recommend but a bit over budget towards the 20k mark.

I run a 2004 petrol v70 and I’m leaning more towards caravans now. Much much cheaper. Hmm

Whether buying a caravan or motorhome:-

Rule no 1.......Check for damp everywhere

Rule no 2.......Never forget rule number one

(Even if it is a couple of years old.)

A certain amount is acceptable....Google is your friend.

An Autosleeper Amethyst or an old Hymer A class would be a fine investment and 4 belts plus , the least likely to be majorly damp of their generation.

If ypu don't mind a more static holiday and the faff of setting up then wobble boxes have their plus sides
