Hoping you guys and girls can help me.

I’m going to look at a Z3 2.& but the seller has told me it throws up engine codes P1250, P0173 and P0170. He says it’s related to low fuel warning even when the car is full of fuel and that it drives fine.

I’ve done a bit of research which seems to suggest the potential for a dodgy MAF or vacuum leak and maybe dodgy fuel rail or fuel sender regulator.

Anyone any ideas? I had an e36 328i before that had a rough idle that I never managed to sort out and don’t want to end up with something that’s impossible to diagnose again.

Thanks

You need INPA to read error codes.

Has it got a genuine MAF?

The copy ones just don't work and even Bremi ones that should work, don't. Only Bosch and Siemens make MAF's that work properly and very often, a bad MAF won't throw a fault code anyway.

After around 9/98 the Z3 2.8 went from the E36 single vanos engine to the twin vanos E46 unit and everything is different.

Check the air intake boot sections for any cracks/perishing & the same with the vac lines

Anything damaged/perished etc, replace it

Those codes can be MAF, but usually it's related to extra air getting in after the MAF and the MAF issue can be a red herring!
