What's the best way to clean a car after an extended roadtrip when the front of the car and the bonnet are covered in very squashed and baked on dead insects.

Snowfoam doesn't seem to make any impact
A normal wash doesn't do enough
Traffic film remover that you spray on and leave doesn't do much
Traffic film remover that you apply with a wash mitt and scrub does seem to shift most of it, but I figure I should be washing the car first, then using the traffic film remover and scrubing and then washing the car a 2nd time - which seems a bit of a faff to me.

Any other recommendations - either for procedure or specific products.

Depends on the weather biggrin

If its raining, just lay a bottom sheet over the areas you need bug free, and go for a brew, and an episode of CarSOS. After an hour or so, come back out, and wash with a mitt - the bugs will have rehydrated, and be much easier to remove. Repeat as needed, moving the sheet around. Then simply wash, and pop it back in the airing cupboard before the missus notices.

In the dry, use old towels, and soak through with the hose.

I’ve always found Citrus pre-wash to be the most effective thing against bugs. My cars get covered in the summer living out in the sticks, I mix it up in a pressure sprayer and soak the front of the car and let it sink in while getting everything else ready. Everything then usually fall off with the jet wash.

As above, keep some in a garden type sprayer mixed up ready.
