Discussion
This Saturday marks the 40th anniversary of the Falklands War. I'd not long turned 20 when this began...!

10 going on 11.
It was the defining political event of my childhood. I had been aware of politics, foreign affairs and war before but to have it happening as current affairs was mind blowing. Followed daily reports in the times and watched the 9 o’clock news assiduously. Probably ingrained a deep seated patriotism as well.

That takes me back as it was my late Mum's 60th birthday!.
I was a few weeks away from being 23 and remember reading articles about conscription papers having been prepared just in case that would have included me, which was a concern!
At that age I probably didn't take it as seriously as I should have, but thankfully my ineptitude was never required.

The last war with a virtual info blackout.
The MOD spokesman Ian Mcdonald in his flat tone announcing the events every day.
For anyone who lived through those events this vlip will take you back

Long running thread in the Lounge about the Falklands Conflict. Well worth spending some time reading through it.

There is a very insightful documentary on Ch 4 currently. You’ll be able to get it on catch up.
I watched it last night and found it fascinating.
Talk about snatching victory from the jaws of defeat.
It just goes to show how relevant modern state of the art technology is so relevant in warfare. In the program there is a big emphasis placed on how the use of portable satellite communications loaned from the US provided a crucial strategic advantage.
The documentary is well worth watching.
