I am looking to avoid the loss of my personal allowance through some carry forward of prior year pension contributions and wondered if I can fill in a draft tax return now (in year) to work out my likely tax position from all income / deductions etc to be sure I make just enough SIPP contributions...

From what I can see HMRC don't support this - but thought it was worth an ask.

Thanks

Well you could use excel or pen and paper.

Income £x
Less xyz allowances
Plus/minus carry forward
Net income.

You only need to be roughly right / but tracking isn’t then needed unless you up pension payments or pay rise (or cut)

That is what I am doing at the moment - I just thought it seemed logical for HMRC to let you draft your tax return in year just not submit it.

Just use Taxcalc - you can download (and pay for it) for 21/22

I've been using it for years for Personal, Ltd and VAT - no issues ever
