My battery health suggests 85% but the battery depletes far too quickly for my extremely light usage. what should I do, replace the battery or move to a more recent version. The more recent versions (iPhone 11j I’ve seen on Facebook marketplace are also around 85 or 88% is that going to give a longer life than mine?

It's an old phone but it's still supported with iOS 15.

£50 gets the battery changed at an Apple Store so I'd expect you could find places that could do it for less.

Presume you've looked at what apps are using the battery and there's nothing unusual in there?

Depends if you're looking for an excuse to replace the phone IMO.

As above, Apple will replace batteries in older phones for very little money and it's a genuine Apple part with a warranty and the phone will be sealed again properly. Very good value compared with a new phone.

What I'd do first is back the phone up fully to iCloud then reset it back to blank, then restore from the backup and see if that helps.

Whatever you do, don't buy an iPhone from myface marketplace, it's full of junk. Google Apple refurbished - currently iPhone XR available with 64GB memory, new case and a brand new battery for £369. So deduct the cost of replacing the battery in your 6S and you've got what is in effect a new iPhone, albeit an older version, for £319. The XR is still a great phone, just lacking the additional cameras the newer versions have.

My 6s was on 85% and it barely lasted through the day. I booked it in at Stormfront for them to replace the battery (at £50). The chap plugged it into their computer to run the diagnostics but I was told Apple would not approve the repair as the system determined the battery wasn’t degraded enough, despite me paying for it! A month or two later, under the battery settings, the phone asked for a battery service, Stormfront then undertook the repair. The phone works ok for me on the latest ios so I’ll be keeping it for another year or two.

I’d ask various friends and work mates what they’d do, most people have nearly new phones sitting in a drawer they are happy to offload for bed to nothing

My 6S is on 79% and needs multiple charges per day.

I think a new SE may well be on order soon as I don’t need or want a big form factor phone.

If Apple will do the swap, Apple it should be.

I have tried various "Fone reprz R Us" places for convenience and it is always the beginning of the end for the phone.

If you’re vaguely confident, the battery is pretty easy to change yourself.

My advice would be to buy a new phone.

If you don’t want to spend too much, an iPhone 11 is now down to £489, and you would probably still get £50 or so for your current phone.

The reason I suggest a new phone, is that yes, you could get Apple to replace the battery for £50, but the phone will still be 7 years old and so other components could fail shortly. The mic, speaker, screen button, or anything could else could fail.

It may be false economy to repair.

Plus, if you change to something like an 11 you will be getting a massively better screen, camera, etc, and the battery life will be better than your 6S when it was new.

6S will lose Apple support at the end of the year and won’t be upgraded with iOS16. If you use your phone for anything important like internet banking, I would change it.

Just went through this with my Mrs. She got her battery replaced at some random place, and within 3 months her LCD started streaking. Instead of changing the screen and the battery, decided it was better value to get her an iPhone 12 Mini.

Thread derail: We are having some issues with Bluetooth on one of our cars. I am using an iPhone SE which spits and pops when on a call,

The dealer says the iPhone 11 works ok. But other iPhones don’t.

Any idea why Bluetooth varies between phones chaps?

I am by no means an expert at all, but my guess would be the version of Bluetooth that is supported by the phone? The iPhone 11 has Bluetooth 5.0, but the SE (assuming it is the 2016 version) is Bluetooth 4.2

If it's a new car, then maybe it works better with a newer version of Bluetooth.

I'm probably way off with my troubleshooting, but that's my first guess.

Sounds likely thanks.

The 12/13 mini is smaller/lighter than the SE but with a bigger screen, battery life isn't ideal depending on your usage.

Cheers! I didn’t realise the screen on the SE was only 4.7”

I've replaced screens on my wife's 6S several times a few years ago, getting to the battery is probably a 5 min job, only a couple of screws to remove.

Batteries are peanuts, but if you are not that handy £50 seems pretty reasonable.

With the SE I think the screen proportions work better than the Mini. You can tell for non home button mode, iOS was designed for a bigger form factor. Either the elements are too small or if the font size is increased, things look awkwardly squashed on the Mini. On a 5.8 inch iPhone XS, things display at a comfortable size and you get more information on the screen. Although the SE is only 4.7 inches, it also displays things at a comfortable size and with a good layout.

honestly would get a newer iphone. Rumour has it fragments of iPhone 6s were found with the pyramids at Giza.

Avoid the 11 - had bad reviews. The normal 11 has a worse screen than the normal XS.

Would recommend a refurbed XS with new battery. Cracking phone, had mine for 2 years and no plans to change.
