Looking for some recommendations on a new TV. I currently have a Samsung LED 49" curved TV (model code: UE49MU6500).

Which has been ok for the most part, although I've never really thought the image was a nice as my old 1080p 60" plasma thats in the other room.

I mostly use the TV as a 2nd monitor for my Mac. Previously a 2012 Mac Mini. But I've recently changed to a new M1 Mac Mini. Obviously the 4k native res makes the writing smaller on the TV. But the issue is motion blurring. Can be quite bad on Youtube especially (less noticeable on Netflix).

At times even the mouse pointer leaves a blurry trail.... if you move it over video content. Move the same content to my PC monitor and it is fine though.

I also note I don't get HDR option in MacOS, so assume this TV doesn't support it. I've tried some software called BetterDummy to allow you to create a virtual screen with additional options over the native controls. But it doesn't seem to have any impact that I can tell.

So I'm on the lookout for a new TV that'll do a better job.

Anyone able to recommend one that'll do a much better job?

Probably best asking in the HiFi and Home Cinema forum, but they'll be wanting to know what size and budget? Personally I'd be looking at an Oled from LG/Panasonic et al but depends on size requirements as the smallest is 48" and they're not cheap in any size - and if you plan to game on it then check they support more than 60hz refresh rate (there's a 48" entry level LG Oled on Amazon for £699 but it's only 60hz)

Have you got the HDMI changed to "PC" when you press source? Also make sure the "Input Signal Plus" is turned on in the settings. We use similar Samsungs in the office as monitors (although windows) and we get a full 4k 60hz with no blur or mouse trail. It sounds like you might be 4k 30hz. The colour profile will also look wrong if it is not set properly.

Also make sure it is a HDMI 2.0 cable.

This is from the manual:

Samsung said:
An HDMI connection with HDMI UHD Color set to Off supports up to UHD 50P/60P 4:2:0 input signals, while an HDMI
connection with HDMI UHD Color set to On supports up to UHD 50P/60P 4:4:4 and 4:2:2 input signals.

The native resolution is 3840 x 2160 at 60Hz with the HDMI UHD Color set to On. The native resolution is 3840 x 2160 at
30Hz with the HDMI UHD Color set to Off.

To turn on HDMI UHD Color: Settings >General> External Device Manager> HDMI UHD Color

Thanks for the info. TBH I'm not sure on the cable, is there a way to tell if it is HDMI 2.0?

I used to use the PC mode on the TV with the 2012 Mac. But the M1 Mac gives a terrible picture in that mode. Can't really get a good screenshot of it, but black text on a white background looks kind of broken. Just not a very nice picture. On the Mac if I tick the HDR option is makes this worse and on-screen writing becomes almost unreadable.

However I have since switched the TV to the Blueray mode instead. This allows the HRD option on the Mac OS to be ticked. Picture and motion do all seem improved. Although visually the picture 'pops' less and looks somewhat muted. Hard to describe, it looks fine and sharp, just isn't vivd and eye-catching.
