RUF Engine Number Location
Discussion
Hi, have re-joined PH after a few years away.
Does anyone have any idea where a 911 (993) RUF engine number is likely to be stamped. Have had a fair search for it but not yet found anything. Anyone with specific info out there as to whether it simply replaced the original number, or is additional and/or in a different location?
Thanks
MC

Engine serial numbers on early 911's are to the right of the fan housing as you look at it on the crankcase; the engine code is stamped on the top and is under the cooling shroud (requiring removal of alternator or shroud to see it). On later cars the complete number is stamped into the underside of the crankcase. Not sure if RUF stamp additional numbers if they modify the engines - happy to be educated; but I've worked on a few and not noted any added numbers.
The factory 993 wiring loom recall still applies to the RUF models - worth checking the VIN to see if it has had it (if needed) and if it needs it it'll be easier to spot the engine number mid-work.
