VC Overseas Dual Time
Discussion
Last summer I was getting caught up in the blue watch hype and considering various options. As part of my hunt i wandered into the Leeds OD and put my name on the list for an Overseas Dual Time blue dial. No buying history with them. They told me they get around one a year so were hopeful I'd hear within a year or two as I was second on the list. They even showed me the file with the names and addresses taken down for the various pieces. Huge list for the three hander, not so much on the dual time. I was nevertheless sceptical.
I then discovered by total chance the then newly launched official Vacheron "E boutique" and had an email chat with them and they happily put me on the "wish list" for the same watch as well. No deposit. Once again I never thought I'd hear anything again.
Fast forward to now. I bought a Piaget Polo S blue dial about 6 weeks ago (and yes I know this watch polarises opinion - thats a different debate) at a heavy discount. It's nice and it definitely scratched the blue dial itch.
Yesterday I got a call from the Vacheron E Boutique to confirm they have a Dual Time blue dial with my name on it. Please can they have £23k. Now I can just about scrape the cash together (by spending my income tax money) to buy it and that's what I'm leaning towards doing. My hesitancy is that all I hear is talk of 5 year waits, lists now closed and them selling for double RRP on the grey market. Yet I get offered one at rrp within 10 months. Is this just a case of being lucky and in the right place at the right time getting on the list with the E Boutique just after it launched and before Overseas went "hype"? Or is this watch not nearly as in demand as I'm led to believe? It certainly feels like a no brainer to buy it!
Thoughts?

Depends if you are buying it because you want it or to flip it?
If its a keeper then the resale value isn't as significant. If you are looking to flip it I would look at Chrono 24 and see what prices are doing on there.
Possibly you could send a speculative message to.Watxhfinder and see what they would pay? They tend to pay on the low side so if they offer more than RRP it's probably worth while as a flip.

Honest answer is that I don't know! I like the look of it which is why I put my name down for it. I did and do want a PP or AP but they are totally out of reach in a multidue of ways so I went with the VC which was at that time "attainable" for a top class sports watch from one of the big three. If I like it I'll keep it and enjoy it. That would mean selling a watch and possibly even a car to keep it. If it doesn't sing to me then it would be nice to know i could move it on without losing any money. I don't want to flip it for a quick profit and then spend the next ten years lusting after an unobtainable watch from the big three anyway, no matter how much profit I could make on it. I suppose the only thing I want to avoid is paying £23k for it and it ever not being worth that. I'd like to wear it, enjoy it and know it was always worth the same or more than what I'd paid for it. Looking at the market at present it seems unlikely I'll lose on it whatever I do.

Doubt you would lose a penny on that. I would be snapping it up.
Sometimes getting to a particular watch is a journey. The VC Dual Time could be one such watch.
I would buy it, if you love it, sell the Piaget.
I bought an Aquanaut that I thought I'd love - never wore it. It looked lost on my manly PH wrist.... sold it and bought a Sky Dweller, which I love. Turns out I was a mug to sell the Aquanaut as it's now worth nearly three times what I sold it for. Ho hum!

If it's any help, I remember seeing your PP in the metal, and agree with you that it was underwhelming. The Sky Dweller is gorgeous. I would buy it, if you love it, sell the Piaget.

Hope that helps with the financial regret!

It does. Hope that helps with the financial regret!

The PP should have been 'the one' but, as you say, rather underwhelming in reality. I can't see what all the fuss is about.
I could be tempted by a VC. But mustn't.

Many thanks for the comments. I have this morning pulled the trigger and paid for it. Yikes.
Happy to pop back and provide an update when it arrives next week. Very excited!
Yay! Good for you.. It's a stunning watch and one I would love to own too.Happy to pop back and provide an update when it arrives next week. Very excited!
Hopefully you'll love it and it will become your 'one' watch to keep forever. If not, you will definitely not lose money on it.
It took me a while, and many watches, to find one that ticked every box - which for me is the SkyDweller. The only downside is that it's a Rolex with all the negative stuff that comes along with it.
Please do post some photos when it arrives, I'd be really interested to see some owner shots. Flog the Piaget and do some creative man-maths!

So, I have just been through quite a similar experience. I put my name down for a blue dial VC Overseas Chrono back in June last year, having prevaricated when they were far more widely available, both on the used market at a discount to RRP and also while they were still available at ADs prior to becoming boutique only.
It arrived just over two weeks ago and because it had been so long since I had actually seen the watch, I wasn't quite sure how much I would like it when I got it on my wrist...I've barely taken it off since!! But, everyone is different and I would agree, unless the watch really grabs you, then there's little point in having so much tied up in something that doesn't sing to you.
What I can say is that these watches are now seriously rare and with AP and PP going stratospheric, I think the appeal of 'the next best thing' (which is VC I guess - harsh in my view as I wouldn't want either of the other two) means VC's time has really come.
According to the VC boutique in W1, they expect to get 5 blue dial chronos a year and I also believe that the dual time book is now closed. If anything, the dual time and three hander seem to have higher values on the used market than the chrono, even thought their RRPs are significantly less. I put this down to the chrono being pretty big and the DT and three hander having a wider appeal.
I was also tempted to ask Watchfinder about values shortly after my purchase, just out of pure interest. I held back on account of Watchfinder being under the same Richemont ownership as VC and I didn't want to be seen as a speculator and be blacklisted in future. That might not happen but you never know.
Either way, I think you've made a great purchase in every respect - hopefully you'll enjoy it as much as I am enjoying mine. Wear in good health.
