Ever since buying my E63 4 years ago there has been a wire hanging down in the passenger footwell that goes up towards the stereo head unit. I always assumed it was an Aux cable or similar but was told by a car stereo shop that it wasn’t. I don’t recognise the connector?

When I asked what it was he just shrugged and said ‘no idea’ Most helpful. rolleyes

I don’t have a Bluetooth module but there is an Aux option. Could this be it? I have no idea when it comes to stereos, but it would be nice to have phone connectivity for music..

Is there an aux in port in the centre armrest storage box? That’s where it should be. If not this might be it but it’s an odd connector to use.

You can for starters pop off the heat lever surround to see if it is heading up behind the radio butt TV I expect it will be and you will need to remove the radio trace it properly.

The best thing t so would be to remove your head unit and trace the wire (it’s not difficult)

Looks like a threaded mono RCA female audio connector. But quite why, I have no idea. I could be into the 'aux' circuit, but why one and not a left and right?

Threaded is weird for RCA connectors - so I suspect it's not audio. Will be interested to hear what others think.

Unfortunately there isn’t an Aux port in the arm rest, and I agree..it’s an odd connector so it has me confused what it would connect to? It clearly has some use? confused

I think I might just have to do that, trace it back, see where it goes.. I just thought I’d pop the query here before I start physically pulling things apart. thumbup

Exactly, RCA would be two..sometimes red & white cables? I’m not an expert in stereos so I’m scratching my head with this..

It reminds me of the aerial cables which ran to the old phone cradles in the days before bluetooth.
Maybe the car had a cradle fitted (since removed) and the aerial cable has been left.

I thought that - but it's an odd exit point for a cradle.

I wonder if the car was ever fitted with a Road Angel or some other radar detection equipment?

Yep, could well be an old Road Angel or similar… I think I’ll just have to pull the head unit out and see where this cable goes..

Can't quite tell at that photo angle, but the connector looks somewhat similar to the female aux input on the older retrofit kits, eg 82110149391
