With Orban having been in for a few years I wonder what will happen.

Is he a good PM or bad.

He seems to have got a good amount of EU money for his country which he is now finding excuses not to pay back and pretty much does his own thing.

I see him doing another turn.

There was a large queue of people in Edinburgh city centre today, and as we passed somebody in the queue stopped us to tell us how nice or dog is (he’s a Hungarian Vizsla); I asked what he was waiting on, and he mentioned it was to vote in the Hungarian election.

The only reason I mention this is because I was surprised by the size of the queue, and therefore how many Hungarians there are in Edinburgh!

Are you sure St Nicola wasn’t on the ballot and it was Scots trying to get her elected over there ?

The Today Programme was from Budapest on Friday morning, making it abundantly clear who were the goodies and baddies in the election.

Saved me having to do my own thinking.

Quite. The BBC is usually quite obliging in that regard.

Just a wild stab in the dark, but as Orban follows a Hungary 1st policy, I’m going to assume that Orban was being painted as Hitler incarnate?

Or perhaps it's his apparent lack of support for Ukraine?

he has stayed well away from getting involved in any way possible with the war, aside from taking in ukrainians.

he’s pretty morally a suspect as a human, but it seems to be a very popular strategy with the voters.

Summed up well. I do wonder what the future will hold. He seems focused on immigrants trying to use the country and has a lot of control of media.

Wants EU money but doesn't want to follow the rules. You can see why he's popular.

Both the people of Hungary and Serbia massively voting in favour of Nationalistic anti-EU parties. The media will be besides themselves with these results.
Salvini one of the first to congratulate Orban. Doubtful many other EU country senior officials will follow suit.

I think, even if he's fine for now, that party leaders staying in power for 20+ years a shot is intrinsically a bad idea. The general shift in corruption over there looks like it will lock him in for the duration.

Putin will be on the phone to him now. I'm still wondering who the PHer was that started a thread on Putin about 6 months ago suggesting more countries needed leaders like him. confused

Are you sure you are responding in the correct thread Jenny?

The overwhelming majority of people in these countries voted for a leader who they believe best serves their interests. Simple as that I guess, I don't live there, although have been to both countries numerous times so can't offer any more insight.
Absolutely nothing to to with Brexit though, that's for sure. Strange question confused

I wondered why there was a news article about transgender people wanting to leave Hungary if a vote doesn’t go their way. It suggested there was going to be a vote on alt-gender rights rather than an election.

Could you please explain how the government of Serbia, which is pursuing an application to join the EU, is anti-EU? And how the government of Hungary, despicable and anti-democratic though it is, which is not proposing leaving the EU, and did not make leaving the EU a part of it manisfesto in last week's election, is anti-EU?

Thanks. I mean taken at face value it could look like your post is simply the product of a mind insistent on pursuing some kind of agenda and/or narrative. You wouldn't waat anyone to think that, I'm sure, seeing as how you are evidently apprised of some empirical facts to which nobody else is party at the moment. So please do share.
