Old speed restriction signs left in place when roadworks

I got a ticket for 70 in a temporary 50 left in place from roadworks, sionce removed. In 2006, I came away from Silverstone in my Chimaera onto the tight downward slip road onto the M4. The first restriction sign was flat on its face, and at the second, I was looking to my right in order to join. A small flatbed driver flashed me and I accelerated, so as not to impeded him. There's an overpass there and a speed camera was directly behind it, hidden from approaching traffic. I was flashed.
I got off at the next intersection and drove down the slip again to see why I had missed the 50-limit signs.
I wrote in reply to the FP explaining the circs, the lack of signage which did not conform to the requirements even if the first was visible, the siting of the camera - hidden - and something else. I still await their reply.
When on the M4 after the flash, I found I had lost a weight, I thought from the front wheel given the degree of vibration, but it turned out to be from the rear. I could go at a bit under 70 without too much problem. I was in the middle lane, passing a commercial vehicle, when a Cerb came up alongside. By signs I explained to the driver why I was going slowly and he shurgged sympathy. The a Clio came up behind him and flashed headlights. The bloke looked in his mirror, smiled and then pointed forward. The bloke dropped a couple of gears, revved up and then dropped the clutch.
Smoke poured from the tyres, leaving two black lines for some distance. It was like he had been shot from a cannon. It must have appeared awe-inspiring to the woman in the Clio a couple of car lengths behind. It was some time before she got her nerves back in order to enable her to pass.
One of the most memorable TVR incidents in my time. I actually laughed half an hour after getting flashed for speeding.
