I have an Eastern European fund (less than 2% of invested assets) currently in the toilet because it includes Russia.
I was informed by the fund that because of the current situation all Russian shares withing the fund are priced at zero because there is no market.
Yes the price of the is quite lowsmile

So..........if I were to increase my holdings in this fund I would stand to gain if and when the Russian shares are eventually priced.
There is of course no timetable for this, so it would basically be an investment in Turkey and Hungary et al for the near future.

It would appear I can get good exposure to companies like gasprom and sherbanc for almost free.

How would the fund trade the actual Russian equities?

As I understand it, the brief reopenings of the Russia stock exchange has only been to facilitate the central bank buying/issuing bonds and purchases internally, as in Russian money for Russian stocks.

.
When and if trading resumes

I was rather hoping that you guys would start buying their oli as we (the USA) can't even supply ourselves at present
The Saudis basically told Biden to take a hike. (Didn't take his call)

So there is a possibility that need may prevail. There is also a negative aspect that Putin may negate US or foreign holdings, but that would only mean I break even on the new money.

At least it can't go below zero! I have a similar fund, but was somewhat relieved to learn the Russian element is written off, because it can't go lower.

Now I only have to worry about Germany, Moldova, Poland, China, ....

Biden, lol. The phrase 'savaged by a dead sheep' comes to mind. The poor old chap should be tending his garden.
