Hi, I just got a lovely new 6 series and want to try to make as many small tweaks as possible to optimise the look and performance. Part of that is considering whether I should get the brake calipers painted. I guess my question is: you see those lovely bright red and yellow calipers on "performance" cars like Aston Martins and the like but is that because they use bigger calipers on those cars anyway so they really stand out? I.e. would the calipers on my 2017 BMW be a similar size so turn out just as nice if I got them painted. Or are they not the "performance" style calipers and so would probs not be worth the 250 odd quid to get them done. I hope that's not too stupid a question!!

When i last had my wheels refurbed the paint shop offered to do my rusting calipers for a mere £60…

I opted for the standard BMW blue as they aren’t Brembos or ceramics! So a bright colour might look a bit ‘try hard’ imho.

Do your own with Flat Hammerite
Piss easy, just take your time.
No need to remove them.
Rough them down then two coats.
Have a look on utube.
I've done a few sets, the last ones look Factory Red with Quattro stickers on from the bay- Honestly!

Maybe not worth doing on my 6 series though if the calipers would be much smaller than on performance cars where the look is really cool? Thoughts?

Agreed.

Go black or silver or OEM. If they aren’t sports brakes don’t go bright.

DIY them...

Wire brush attachment for your drill; brake cleaner to clean off and then a decent high heat proof paint and I prefert he use of the sponge 'brushes' rather than bristle brushes as it leaves a much smoother finish

I've just done the above to the brakes on my F01; need to do the rears yet but it's lashing it down most of this week, so it'll need to wait

No harm in giving them a lick of paint, but I’d stick to silver of black.

I painted the callipers on my other half’s 125i last heat. They’re crumby single piston sliders but still look better in silver than brown with rust!

I say go for it. If they are the usual small std callipers go Silver as bright coloured ones as you say look good on four pot sports brakes. I love my M Sport ones and they do look good, I even bought a special brush so as the keep them shiny.
