Brakes squealing whats the solution ?

tend to be nosier when there cold..but then start again when they are really hot..tried blowing them out but no use

Its the pad material.

Best to use Mintex 1144's for quiet running. Remember the copper slip on the rear of the pads and the anti squeel shims.

I also put a 45degree angle on the leading edge which cured it...but not for long. I eventually gave up, after doing it a few times.
However, the good news is, it now stopped squealing on its own, a few thousand miles later.

I had a chat with Steve Heath about this at the Wedge Fest. If I remember right he said the squealing was actually a vibration between the bell and rotor (Steve please correct). He had a solution for the problem too, although I don't know when this will be available and the cost.

mine sqeal like a stuck pig being skewered very slowly and it has got to the point where you dread putting the brakes on, esp. in town where it sounds like a number 14 bus. Different people have said different things as to poss cures, and on the AP website it does say that squeals come with the territory but if anyone has got a reasonably cost effective solution to this i would be VERY grateful to hear it as it really does get in the way of enjoying the car - change of pad type, if so to what, etc etc. I've been told that mine are very hard pads and that this is the main reason. The copper grease thing hasn't worked in the past. Seems not to squeal so much in the wet, the warmer the weather the worse it is. All help gratefully received. Does this happen to other car makes?

There doesn't seem to be a magic cure that always works, but I have found the following to be very effective:

bevel the leading edge of the pad

smear copperslip between the back of the pad and the piston

fit an anti-squeal shim between the back of the pad and the piston (fibrous sheet that seems to damp out vibrations)

clean the coppaslip and use anti-squeal goop instead (non-setting adhesive available in small sachets for 35p)
