Help! Bought a car with more issues than I anticipated.
Discussion
I recently bought a BMW from a dealer who advertised the car as having minimal issues.
Unfortunately, I bought it hastily without bringing a professional to check it first.
My local garage has found a long list of issues with the car. The main one is a leaking shock absorber so a clear MOT failure.
This wasn't noted in the MOT advisories but other points have been and my local garage has found much more things.
As I am within 14 days of buying this car, is it best to ask for a refund or get the dealer to repair the issues?

Reject if you can but if; its a fly by night dealer and/or a cheap car and was advertised with some issues good luck getting any recourse...

id point out many serviceable cars could be presented to a garage and have a long list of faults found if asked to do so
how much did it cost ? a leaky damper isnt the end of the world on a used car

It's an 07 eoq
What gets me is that the MOT was passed VERY recently. How could that have been missed?

Sorry to say but I don't think you will get far with the dealer.

It’s a 15 year old car - things can go wrong fairly quickly. If you can get anything out of the garage that’s great - if not you may need to throw a bit of money at it and have a good car for £6k.It's an 07 eoq

15 year old car is not in brand new condition? Hold the front page.....
A damper can be leaking or misting, often different testers can have different opinions on the severity of issues. Some pass, some fail
OP needs to own some blame here.... Bought with known issues, didn't get it looked at by someone with a clue beforehand....
I genuinely feel for dealers at times!

Thanks, they all seem to be minor issues apart from that shock and to be fair the seller didn't declare any.A damper can be leaking or misting, often different testers can have different opinions on the severity of issues. Some pass, some fail

I'll look to get the bigger issues resolved
I’ve had the same in the past. In fact, my current car was a downgrade and conscious risk to buy something older and higher mileage to reduce overall costs for a while. Since I bought it I’ve had to replace both rear shocks and the glow plugs are now all failing one-by-one. It’s just a fact of life with older cars. Stuff breaks.
It’s different if it was sold as being in perfect condition, or if the dealer specifically states in writing there are no faults, but if they didn’t you’re reliant on goodwill and good luck, which I wouldn’t rely on.

why do people buy a car blind then straight down the dealers for a 1000 point inspection? theyre looking for work and faults
next time...take it there before you agree to buy it
but in all honesty what 07 car hasnt got a few issues and worn parts ? most likley still works and is safe but once you start digging and looking for faults most will have some

WTF is an EOQ?
Pretty sure it'll be an E91 (3 series estate to normal people) and the OP didn't hold his finger on the keyboard keys long enough to bring the numbers up! What I'm wondering is whether the was sold with 'minimal issues' (as per the first post), or 'no issues' (as per subsequent posts). To my mind there's quite a difference and I suspect the OP might be re-writing history a bit to put himself in the right. It won't matter anyway, it's a 15 year old £5k car that's not pristine but not too bad either by the sounds of it, in practice it'll be more bother than it's worth pursuing the dealer even if they did say it was as good as the day it was built. You bought a 15 year old car for £5k and didn't expect any issues at all? Unfortunately that is not how things work.
The shock should not be leaking, I would pursue them to fix this but anything minor is par for the course when buying a car of that value and age.
Garages selling £5k cars are unlikely to go over every part of the car to check for every single issue they can find, that just doesn't happen.
In terms of the MOT, I would not put much emphasis on this, especially if they have their own MOT centre or one round the corner they use regularly.
