How does this scam work?

I've had a few of these messages for stuff I've been selling on Facebook marketplace.

How does the scam work.?

I suspect they don't turn up with the cash, but bring with them lots of excuses as to why they don't have it.

Basically get you to fork out for "insurance" for the cash being sent, via a fake courier site.

I once sold a mx5 hardtop to a fella that did indeed work on an oil rig, but he turned up as agreed with cash, I didn’t get to bum a dog or nuffink

I got this and was wondering the same. They started asking for bank details so figured that was the scam part.

Same here, but it's also embarrassing when friends wish me happy birthday on some random day...

You can hide your birthday on Facebook. It's nice to do it to not feel the obligation to send Happy Birthday to your friends for 12 months

guess it would be problem booking the collection , let me send it to your bank , opps i sent 3500 by mistake which will be some sort of fiddle /fake , please refund me the money but keep a drink

you send back the 3500 and then find out a week later the payment was fake so youre down the 3500

in short they trick you that youve been payed and you end up giving back your own money

If we all sold with anonymous details I guess we could all play along and have the special collection agent turn up to an address we could see from our window that doesn’t exist

If everyone did it, they’d soon have to find a new scam

I've had many of them, i usually string them along. You'll be asked to sent money for "insurance" via some money transfer service. A couple of the ones i've had, the insurance cost is more than the item
