Hi all, I was wondering if anyone knew of any jobs that an aircraft technician could move into? I've been an aircraft technician for about 10 years now and I am really keen to try something new out. I live around the Surrey/West Sussex border, and will happily commute up to an hour.

My qualifications are:
EASA/CAA Category A aircraft maintenance license
Level 3 NVQ in Aeronautical Engineering
Level 3 Extended Diploma in On-Air Maintenance Category A1 - Aeroplanes (Turbine)
Functional Skills Qualification in Information and Communication Technology (ICT) at Level
2
2 A Levels
10 A* - C GCSEs

I currently get paid £44,000 PA. I know it’s unlikely I will be able to find a job paying the same but due to mortgage, kids & other financial commitments, I need to be able to earn somewhere in that region.

Does anyone have any ideas of what I could look into?

Why don't you just stay in the industry, get your B licence, and earn £20k p.a. more?

Yes! i work with some top quality A license guys/gals and mechs and for the sake of a few exams could easily make the jump.

I can't help with the south east area but I will say that my end, offshore helicopters in the north sea is definitely picking up.

Ball park wages for rail way techs, so could move to there, although still think passenger numbers are down, which might impact recruitment.

Usd to work with an ex aircraft guy.

I have a few b1 exams done. My issue is, I absolutely hate the work I do and really want to leave!

Then move to another company & see if you prefer the work there.

There is life outside BA/EZY or wherever you are now.

I’ve been to a couple of different companies now! I don’t dislike the company I work for, I just dislike the work. I don’t enjoy working on aircraft anymore…

Nuclear power? Marine Engineering? Wind Turbines?

Your qualifications would give you a big accreditation of prior knowledge boost in any of those industries which are always going to need people.

It may involve moving but there are opportunities out there.
