My Dad has a 964 C2 (H reg) and he was charging the battery the other day when he noticed this connector (indicated by the red arrow) in the front boot above the battery:

Does anyone know what it is? Or where the tube that attaches to it is routed/goes to?

This is actually a photo of a friend Andy's identical C2 (Evidently his is incomplete too). My Dad's one actually has a short tube attached to this connector. This tube ends in a right angled connector which then just is loose and dangling down by the battery. Not good.

It looks like it should transport some sort of fluids around yet there's no sign of leakage from it. I thought it might be the headlight washer jets but they work fine.

Anyone know where the tube that fits in here goes?

Thanks for you help!

:)

Ben,

It's the battery charge breather. When a battery is charged it will often vent gas (which is why some batteries have a connector on them for this purpose).
The original Porsche battery in my 993tt had just such a connector, but it's non-OEM replacement does not.

Mystery solved?

Certainly sounds exceedingly plausible and also explains why the tube seems to want to end around the battery but without any obvious connecter!

I'll secure it down then to make sure it doesn't flap about and put a little reminder sticker in there in case it ever gets a battery with a breather pipe!

Cheers guys! Most impressed with everyones quick responses!

Puts my mind at rest, as now I don't have to worry why my car (the one in the piccy) is missing a small tube

Although, to be honest, I hadn't really been worrying much

It's like VS says - when I replaced the (very expensive) Porsche battery on my 965, there was a similar connector on the battery with a length of clear plastic tubing between them. The replacement battery - lasted longer, more rambo than the original too - didn't have the connector. That weeny plastic outlet pipe must explain why pork lead-acid accumulators are so expensive
