Cheaney shoes, worth the money?

For the last 10-12 years I've been buying Loakes for around £150-200 and the uppers last me 18mths-2 years which I'm perfectly happy with. Yesterday I saw a pair of Cheaneys I fell in love with but they're £395. Happy to spend the money, but will they last longer than the half price Loakes I've always been happy with? Fully appreciate I'll be heel and soling them during the time.

A bit about me, I'm a car salesman so on my feet quite a bit, looking at my phone, I do about 6-7,000 steps a day, I drive about 15,000 miles a year in the shoes and I don't suppose it matters but I'm a size 13.

I'm not really interested in alternatives to be honest, I spent a few hours on Sunday on Jermyn St and nothing else really caught my eye to spend that kind of money on. So if they're not worth it I'll just buy another pair of Loakes and go about my normal business.

I'd buy two pairs of Loakes and wear them on alternate days. They will last longer that way.

I looked at Loakes for business and went with Church’s instead, but have a few pairs of Loakes for casual.

The issue with Church is they are now owned by Prada, who have decided to double the price of their shoes but not the quality! The original Church shoes are fantastic.

Church have just collaborated with Off White. Which shows the kind of customer they are going for!

I have a nice pair of suede Chelsea boots, that I think I've only worn once.

There's a Cheaney outlet store at the O2, my Mrs. got some lovely pairs last year with a huge saving from list price.

I've won Cheaney's for work for the last 15 years or so. They last me 4+ years or so with a couple of resoles along the way. Worth the money IME.

I'm not too far from the factory so have been able to pick up a few pairs of seconds from the onsite shop which saves a bundle.

My Cheaney Arthurs are about ten years old and refurbed at the factory once.
They are good shoes and probably worth the outlay if you're into smart, high quality, traditional footwear.

I've taken another route and not worn any of my traditional shoes since switching to barefoot style shoes. My feet thank me. Others look at me like I'm mad, or just odd.

Thanks for the advice, sounds like they're worth the money. I was a bit uncertain as I'd heard a few stories about Church's and wondered if I was just paying a lot for the name rather than the quality.

To be fair a very sensible idea, unfortunately I just really love these Cheaneys and Loake don't have a similar shoe.

I am fortunate to have a vast collection of shoes from the likes of Loake, Barker, Cheaney, Church, Grenson, Edward Green, John Lobb, Gaziano & Girling, Vass etc. I personally feel the investment in a pair of Edward Green shoes at £1200 is worth it for me. I'd suggest you have a look at manufactures sales. Many do 'Sample' / 'Factory' sales where you can buy shoes with very small imperfections at a fraction of the cost. I have scored a few bargains through these schemes!

This. I’ve never regretted spending more on footwear, works out in the long run. I’ve a pair of Cheaney boots on at the moment, bought them 4-5 yrs ago and still decent.

I’d buy the Cheaney shoes, definitely worth the increase in cost.

If near Kettering (Desborough) pop into the outlet shop and save a few quid.

For those that don’t know what the Church family did with their money when the sold to Pravda, the bought Cheaney in 2009.

Have a pair of Sargents 'Dundee' boots bought some 20 years ago that are still going strong, very comfortable still on original leather soles but i've had the rubber soles and heels replaced several times, they show no signs of wear and still look new, probably see me out.

Pair of Cheaney commando sole boots which in all honesty don't match the Sargents for comfort, luckily picked them up at the factory shop for half price, i'd have been disappointed if the full price had been paid.

I bought my Cheaney boots twelve years ago & they’re still going strong, still on their original soles. I don’t wear them every day, but they’ve had a lot of use. I got them from the factory shop in Desborough for well under half the retail price.

Strangely enough, I was looking at their website today, as my son in law was asking about them.

I've had one pair of Cheney boots from 1996, wedding day purchase, they are still like slippers to this day, but don't wear them much anymore

I have a pair of black Cheaney's for formal occasions and brown Loake brogues for anything else.

The Cheaney's leather is softer and thinner and I like the way the tongue is fixed on the inside edge so it doesn't slide. I only wear them 5-6 times a year so the durability is not that important.

I’ve had a number of shoes from Loake, Cheaney, Alfred Sargent, Crockett & Jones etc.

Cheaney definitely looks and feels superior to Loake (Loake 1880 line, the only ones worth having imo), as you’d expect from the higher price point.

Personally Crockett and Jones is the sweet spot for me price v quality. I really like their designs, particularly the boots. I have 5 pairs now, which cover all bases for me and don’t really wear my other shoes from other manufacturers any more.

I like Loakes, they suit my feet!
I find the driving killed them, wore heal and scufffed back on carpet and mats. So I started putting other shoes on to drive, leave the loakes behind seat and they lasted years longer!
