Should I buy a used Merc e350e estate?

Hi folks,

I've been tempted by the duality of the hybrid motors and the comfort of the interior. However, I'm weary of maintenance costs. I'd be looking at a £15K Sport or Premium Plus trim with around 85-95K mileage. The bits that raise red flags are p

-Cost of replacing the EV battery (I've read this can be ~£5000 and due every 5 years or so outside of the MC battery warranty (60,000 / 6 yrs). That alone is a dealbreaker given the value of the car. Source if this is a lease owner of 3 yrs https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LFp3a1INFOM

-Cost of servicing. Does anyone have experiencing running this car around the 90K mileage and up?

Is this an endless moneypit?

For context, I'm also looking at 12/13 A4 avant or Skoda Octavia 16/17 model. They may be safer bets!

How many hybrid batteries have actually needed replacement vs talk of it on the Internet. I drive a 2007 Lexus RX400H with 107,000 miles on it, I don't even think about it. Look how many are for sale with 180-200k on the clock.

Buy on condition. There was an article a few weeks ago in the papers about a man being quoted £15000 for battery replacement.

I was in an E Class Hybrid taxi of similar age earlier this week. Chatting to the driver he said the gearbox needed replacing at 140k (something unique to the hybrids that couldn’t be fixed apparently) at a cost of £7k. Also he had to use Mercedes for any issues as nobody else wanted to work on it.

If I wanted a Hybrid I’d go for something proven by Toyota/Lexus etc. if I wanted a Merc I’d get a diesel.

I was looking at battery issues in hybrids about a year ago and found a company near Nuneaton that would recondition a hybrid battery for £400-600 depending on model/spec.

Just avoid the one with the Renault engine
