Water loss

Hi I've just bought a Chimaera, and havn't stopped grinning since. I only have one concern about the admount of water it seems to use.
I ve driven it about 400 miles since the weekend and when I check the water level last night it had gone down to the bottom of the expansion tank. Is this normal? I've checked for signs of water in the exhaust and oil, all seems ok.
Can anyone help?

don't panic - if you don't re-fill it, then check after a run is it still near the bottom ? Chims seem to have favorite position for the header tank level....mine is about 2" full - if I fill it up it just spits it out again....

I'm assuming you mean expansion tank and not swirl pot, therefore I'm assuming its a later model with both swirl pot and expansion tank. With that in mind, the level in mine is only about 1"-2" off the bottom of the expansion tank as normal.

There's a section in the Owner's Manual explaining how to fill the system (it doesn't only involve topping up the header tank. If you don't have that, buy a copy of 'The TVR Griffith and Chimaera' (commonly referred to as 'The Bible') by Steve Heath.

Hopefully the problem isn't serious, but check the oil filler cap in any event for a light brown, creamy deposit which is indicative of, perhaps, a blown head gasket. If there is such a problem, don't drive it until it's been looked at, so it isn't made worse.
