Kia Sportage 18 plate
Discussion
Hi,
The missus Mk5 golf had a engine mount bolt snap so it's going to scrap after 160k.
Looking at a Sportage 1.7 CRDi ISG 3 5dr up for 17.5k.
Has anyone had experience with this model?, it drove quite well, and felt really nice to drive.
Its done 30k so will have 70k more in it for warranty or 4 years.
Prices of cars are really scaring me, but it is what it is and I need another motor. Hope is it will get run into the ground like the Golf did.

The 1.7 is okay but the 2.0d is a better smoother unit so if you can find one it's the pick:

I’d just buy a new engine mount bolt.
You’ll get a lot of change out of £18k
Would do mate but the bolt snapped off in the hole, and It frayed the whole timing belt. You’ll get a lot of change out of £18k
I really just want rid now, she's driving my boy around in it and I want something safer.
I've recently paid my car off a few months ago so it will be fine.
Only experience of a sportage was a 17 plate petrol, really well made, 38 mpg on decent runs, no squeaks, rattles or reliability problems. I really rate them but as another poster said, a 2.0 diesel auto would be my choice...or the hyundai equivalent which is better looking to my eyes!! Did they also do a 2.2 diesel or was that jist in the bigger 4x4s
Can't comment on that specific model, but my wife bought a used Sportage (one year old, almost to the day when we bought it) 2.0 AWD diesel Sportage GT-line (66-plate). Bought from a KIA main dealer.
I'm not personally into SUVs in general, and it's fairly low mileage for it's age (almost 30k - had 10k on the clock when we bought it), but it has been a perfect family car. Looks pretty decent in GT-line trim, with nice 19" wheels, 2 tone leather, and as with many KIAs is fully kitted out (front and rear parking sensors, rear parking camera, cruise control, lane keep assist, auto headlights, auto wipers, heated front and rear seats etc). Practical boot, never given us any problems or failed an MOT, and even now it's still under warranty. No rattles, feels really solid, and the material quality is decent, especially the parts you'd actually touch (scratchy cheap plastics lower down, but irrelevant to me). Bluetooth connectivity works a treat, even the Sat Nav is decent (the age of the car means I just missed out on when Android Auto/Apple Car Play was introduced).
Honestly, I couldn't recommend the car enough. The 2.0 diesel isn't the most frugal, but it's acceptable, and the AWD capability was surprisingly good and got us out of a couple of jams one particularly bad winter. I genuinely don't have a single bad word to say about KIA.

I am thinking 2.0L now after sleeping on it.Tax increases a bit on the 2.0 from 1.6/7s but it will be a far better lump for the size along with AWD.
On the Hyundai I assume the Tuscon is the equivalent?

What average real MPG are you getting out of yours? Its quoted at 48 but I'd expect in the low 40's based on wind drag. My dad has had his 2016 2.0 auto diesel Sportage (GT Line) since since new and I think he now up to 40k miles.....its been faultless in everyway, with the exception of a new battery last year which was c.£100, fitted by Kia. It's a really great solidly built car and had he upgraded it in after 3/4 years as he was thinking he might have done, I would have bought it off him, no quarms at all.
If we are nit picking, the only thing I would say is that the ride is a little compromised on the 19" wheels, and the tyres are expensive in that size....but they do look really smart and set it off nicely. The cabin is also a little dark without a sunroof, but that's really scraping the barrel in terms of fault finding.
MPG wise, he drives it like the old man that he is, and he'll average 40-ish round town, high 40's maybe just into 50mpg on a motorway run.

The rims on them do worry me, I had a Q5 a few years ago (when I had money) and yes....adds up when you usually need 1/2 done at the same time.
Tax also high on the 2.0 models.
The Golf got towed away today, so sad at nearly having it for 15 years but it's just beyond economical repair now.

The tax on the 2.0d isn't that high £165 for the 185bhp & £155 for the 140 model.Tax also high on the 2.0 models.

My wife has a Hyundai ix20 which we've used as the family car for the last 6 years. Cheap to buy and run and not put a foot wrong in 60k miles. She will definitely stick with hyundai/kia next time and a Sportage is a possible replacement if its not too big.
The Kia range is good at the moment. If you're coming from a Golf then you might get more for your money with a Ceed? Unless you really want an SUV a Ceed 1.6 diesel will offer similar performance with greater economy. And if its more space you need then the new Proceed shooting brake looks very nice. You'd get a 2019 in budget.
Have you looked at the Ford Kuga too? Perhaps more available and maybe a bit cheaper like for like.
