I've been thinking this weekend about a car purchase.

Life was so simple when we didn't have diesel hybrid, petrol hybrids, plug in hybrids...hybrids that are petrol...you get my drift.

Question is should I be really getting into a long term diesel ?

It really depends on your usage which you haven’t said…how many miles is your commute and how many miles per year? What type of car is it?

What age diesel would it be if you are ever likely to want to drive into a city with, or planning to have, a ULEZ?

It's a 2018 and ULEZ there so fine. However I live in the sticks.

The journey/trip question is a challenging one, it's mostly a car to fill the hole for the missus, she'll do light local trips and occasional motorway journeys.

However I'd like to use this opportunity to find something we could go out on long trips in and maybe a driving holiday.

I have a passat b8 at the moment, it's likely to be a bit older so we'll probably "share" cars...based on me paying for this one.

given the punishment against the "evil" diesels and occasional longer journey I'd be looking at a small turbo petrol.
