What kind of mark up are people seeing at OPC compared to priced they’ve bought them in for?

Just spoken with a dealer who’s offered £20k less than the cheapest Taycan in the network, when mine is newer and better spec, odd as I’ve been offered much much more by another dealer.

Is this the usual or exception?

£10k is the ballpark figure I've seen mentioned previously, but for non-electric vehicles. Not sure why it would be any different though.

A £20k markup sounds to me like they don't really want to buy the car.

Yep, £10k on standard stuff from my experience. I’m a Porsche fan, but the OPCs are greedy with their used car margins.
I had one dealer claim they would be marketing my Cayenne at £8k cheaper than the cheapest like for like Cayenne in the entire OPC network, and offered me a further £8k less than that price.
I told them to brush up on their pricing strategy, and then remove my contact details from their database.

Made a tentative enquiry about my 997GTS manual a couple of weeks ago. They thought they might be able to get to £55k (its a good spec and 29k miles). They're like hens teeth. 2 most recent Hexagon cars were £82k (I know, but they disappeared from their website...) and a recent private sale was £75k. I reckon they'd be at £79,995 retail.

It's almost like they either think I'm stupid or don't want to sell me another (overpriced) car.....!

Yup, about £10k on anything £ 40k -£ 75k in my experience, more on more expensive metal.

Unless I was after something limited in supply, I’d never trade to an OPC, they really do take the mickey…

If the OPC don't know you they will take the proverbial and obviously low ball you.

Just like any dealer.

Stick to OPCs who know you and with who you have dealt before.

My OPCs charge £5k irrespective of my cars value and always get the best price.

Does that mean you do sale or return with them?

Yes but you do need to trust them and for obvious reasons.

I bought a 2021 Taycan, less than 3 months ago, it was 10 months old at the time, so had over 2 years of warranty left (so nothing for the OPC to add), they did service it for me ( a year early) and added paint protection.

At the time WBAC was offering £84,410 for the car - I bought it from the OPC for £89,000

I appreciate this might be a unique deal, but demonstrates it is worth asking a few different dealerships.

  • WBAC bid today is £68k eek Perhaps the dealer knew values were about to drop significantly.

Values definitely haven’t dropped that much -WBAC are way off the mark, I’ve now had an offer £16k over that for a 21plate RWD.

That good to know - I was feeling a little sick at the thought of chucking £20k in 3 months, especially as asking prices have not moved at all. I imagine WBAC were toppy when I bought and now not interested.

As you are finding in today’s mkt, valuations are all over place.

Agree on the WBAC offer. Doesn't reflect the accurate market merely reflects the fact they don't want the car or may not be buying atm.

Why worry about it? If you have a better offer, tell the OPC and sell it to the other party.

Wowzers!!!

I get you take it up the jacksie when trading in / selling to the trade but £115 K is mental. Win, Win for the dealer retailing it on for a sweet 30K mark up.

Just sold mine through RPM…similar miles and was a good spec. They sold it within a week, good service all very transplanted on SoR.

My local OPC buyer did ask about the car a few months ago as I told the sales bloke I speak to I was probably going to sell it. In fairness he did say on 997’s they really struggle to be competitive £55k is really taking the piss though! Conversely on my wife’s 718 Boxster we sold last summer the OPC buyer was prepared to write a cheque for more than a Porsche specialist (not RPM) would have returned us on SoR.

That drop masks the bigger picture.

Porsche and other higher end obviously excluded too.

And many other niche cars together with hatchbacks, sports, estates and obviously more economical stuff across the board which are up ££.

It is the older gas guzzling high ved expensive to run limited accomodation stuff which has dropped and taken the average with it too. Particularly after a mild winter where expensive to run and fuel 4 x 4s have largely been shunned.

Also bear in mind average trade prices March 22 are still higher than both June 21 and December 21 even with higher mileage and cars being that much older.

Continuing supply chain issues and extending lead times obviously further restricting new car registrations.

Each month will see a drop now. Supply chain won't matter soon, as demand stalls. Luxury cars won't be exempt as most are bought on finance and increasing numbers will be reluctant to take it on, as the cost of living increases.

WBAC have their finger on the pulse, because they can see the declining hammer prices at BCA.

All I can say is that if I had to invest in all that shiny showroom infrastructure ,I cannot see how £10k is enough to prep a car,put a warranty on it ,cover overhead and make a profit.
