The reverse light has stopped working on my Chim. have checked the bulb (it works) and the fuse (it's okay) - Is there a switch on the gearbox to let everything know it's in reverse that I can play with?
There must be a simple answer to this and it's not threatening any enjoyment of the car in any way - just a niggle that now its winter(ish) I would like to sort. TIA. Nick

edited to say: My Xmas list has a copy of Steves book at the top so am praying new edition is available soon.........

Switch is located on passenger side of the gear box, and not the easiest place to get to. If you disconnect the switch and short out terminals on wiring it will confirm if the switch has gone. It is a fiddle to get to the switch, with exhaust in place, but it can be done. Took me about an hour, to replace the switch.

Um ... but be careful not to short either of them to earth while you're doing it. :bang:

Just a quick comment, mine did the same, checked bulb etcetera, but before I got under the car, I disconnected, cleaned and reconnected the connector on the rear light cluster, started working again...

Mine did the same, but the reverse light would come on if I held the gear stick over as far as it would go (I have an SDi box so reverse is right and up). I think this is common on the SDi box, and I think it is caused by some Brass bushes wearing out.

Had it fixed once. Then had it done again when I had the gearbox rebuilt just for good measure!

No idea about the problem, but a lack of reverse light is not a MOT failure as far as i'm aware.
