I have to go to Bahrain for work purposes on my own. I have never been anywhere on my own and am a little apprehensive/nervous. Anyone been here?

You'll have a great time. Gulf Air girls are best, but beware many of them have USMC boyfriends who can make things tricky if you're not careful. Lot's of high class russian ladies there too but watch out, they normally expect you to pay.

This is not my own experience unfortunately, but that of my mate Welsh John, who got the cushy Bahrain posting. I got Riyadh and Jeddah, which were interesting in different ways...

Anyway it must be good because he's chosen to go out there permanently soon.

Not been to Bahrain myself but I would be worried. People is the Gulf are to busy getting rich to bother foreign visitors. With this money they can then fund Al-Qaeda like organisations, which are very unlikely to bite the hand that feeds them...
I'd be far more worried if I had to travel to the US.

Passed through the airport on my way from Abu Dhabi. Only there for about 2 hrs. I felt the same way when I went to Abu Dhabi but quite enjoyed it. Felt really safe when walking around and only panicked when I was in a taxi!! I hear that Bahrain is meant to be very similar. Just take a lot of suntan lotion and have a good time.

Hi Zippy,

Lived in the Gulf for almost four years. Travelled to Bahrain once a month for most of that time.

Great place, nice and warm, great hotels, a few FANTASTIC drinking holes, you'll have fun.

eMail me offline if you have any specific concerns, I'll help where I can.

Off to Lille for a DW tomorrow morning, so will only be able to respond on Monday evening.

Not been to Bahrain, but spent (enough) time on the expat circuit to have learnt it's an OK place to go.
Just remember UK pub rules = no politics/religion & you'll be ok most places in the world.
Enjoy.
