Fed up with the tatty state of front splitter on GTO3R. I know some people have removed them and I understand they're only cosmetic anyway, but does the front still ground to any degree without it?
Bit of a Catch 22 really... splitter protects bodywork, but I suspect (?) that wouldn't need protection if the splitter wasn't there.

I have a splitter and my stance is that I'll keep it there until it is damaged, then I'll remove it, but I sure won't fall into the trap of paying to have it replaced (again!). I reckon that the risk of damage to a splitter-less clam is quite low, as the sort of obstacles I will encounter would always be at quite low speed.
Watch this space chaps - I have been doing a lot of R&D into making various bits and pieces for our cars.
Current prototype of new front splitters look fantastic in 2/2 twill carbon, yet flexible so as to not be any more detrimental to your clam than the existing fitting - this has taken time to achieve. Loads more ground clearance and keen prices likely too.

There's a difference between "not being any more detrimental" and being beneficial. If the splitter is not required anyway (see earlier threads), what is the motivation in buying one?
My understanding is this:
The 3R comes with a splitter in the UK; the M400 doesn't. That said, you can buy an M400 with the splitter on (as I did) and I suspect you can buy a 3R without it... the choice is yours. The M400's that go out to Australia appear to have the splitter as standard.
Why did I choose to have it on my M400? I think it looks better and, I'd rather the splitter took the whacks that the front clam. If I end up doing sufficient damage to the splitter I'll take it off but I sure as hell wouldn't pay £650 for a replacement

...ahh I think you got me a bit wrong here. The new ones I have been working on are more benficial because they give way more ground clearance, besides being a much more aesthetically pleasing design.
The "not being any more detrimental" refers to the fact that they are not overly stiff such that they would damage the clam if they ground out. I know a lot of people were concerned that something with the strength of carbon would not 'give' the same as the grp original item.
Yes we are told the front splitter can be removed and is not required - for some though it is a design element of the car

No where near. If you call the factory you should be able to get one for about £100 or less. As, IIRC all M400's arrive with one on and they are then removed. So, the factory, has quite a stock.

Greg, I think Domcross is quoting the 2-part carbon fibre splitter as fitted to some M400's. The standard galssfibre on is around £180 primed - I'm not sure what you'll get for £100 or less?!
