I have an old Lenovo tablet which is running Android 6, and there are no further updates coming from Lenovo. There is a version of Linage OS which will update it to Android 7, although it means rooting the device, but newer versions of Lineage are not officially supported. Does this mean I cannot install later versions, or is it likely to work just without any support? What are the potential issues from downloading the latest version of Lineage (Android 12) and putting that on a 7 year old tablet?

As an aside I think its pretty crap how manufacturers stop providing updates so shortly after they stop selling devices. Not so much for the functionality, but the security updates stop as well.

go to XDA; it is likely that a CM ROM will work up to Android 11 or 12 on the device, certainly 10 should perform.

If you can root and know what works and what does not, who needs support....? biggrin
