how long ago is 'long enough'

Obviously for (serious) criminal offenses I'm happy to see 99 year olds face prosecution but should blacking up or wearing a fancy dress SS uniform 40 years ago rule you out of public life today?

It must be 40 years ago that I wore a Golliewog outfit to a fancy dress party.

Complete with black tights over my face and a dyed floor mop for hair. A lot more effort than hiring a Nazi costume I’ll have you know.

Not my proudest moment grant you. Fortunately I’ve never been attracted to politics in any shape or form but I’d hate my career to be defined by something ill advised but ultimately harmless that I did in my 20’s.

30 years ago I stopped at a Halfords with my then girlfriend to replace a worn windscreen wiper blade before a long journey. She stayed in the car whilst I was replacing it, and so had a front row seat as I accidentally let go of the wiper stem and smashed the windscreen.

She didn’t stop laughing about it for days, and 30 years later and long since married, if the subject of wiper blades comes up, she still starts giggling and points at me. Personally, I think that’s long enough.

30 years ago I had one of those retractable pencils, the ones where you continually click the end and the graphite shaft emerges.

I managed to get the full 10cm out and my then best friend comes along and flicks it, writing of my wonderful pencil. Still hold it against him

Why would anyone lose their job over a fancy dress outfit?

It doesn’t make him a nazi any more than me dressing up as a zombie for fancy dress makes me one of those.

I don't know what age I was but I was in a pantomime at the local civic theatre as child in blackface. That would have been about 40 something years ago.

I'm more puzzled by the people who have time to trawl through years worth of photos/newspapers/whatever in order to find things like this.

Or do they not actually do this themselves, but employ a department of snowflakey types & delicate little fawns to do it instead?

Spambots could find this if its on the internet and tagged under his name. Its just a line of code and pings up every result. You just scroll through the results to find what you want.

The issue here though isn’t whether or not Colin Davis, Enfield Southgate Conservative Association chair, did or did not dress up as a Nazi, but that he can’t remember if he dressed up as a Nazi.

Mr Davis told Jewish News he had "no recollection" of the occasion "at all".

He told the paper he could not recall dressing up as a Nazi, but added that "there were various wild parties, very perverse themes expressed… I can't absolutely rule it out".

Sorry, but bks. Can’t remember if you dressed up as a Nazi - are we supposed to think Colin Davis is a simpleton as well as being anti-Semitic?

If you did choose a dubious outfit for a party twenty years ago, at least have the balls to admit you were a moron at the time and apologise properly now.
