Throttle Cable - Just how!
Discussion
Hi Folks
Hoping you can help with what should be a simple job, but for the life of me cannot see an easy way to do it.
Ideally id like to remove the throttle cable and lubricate it, not to mention tighten up a loose locking nut at the engine end. I have kind of done this by hand but not ideal as you can imagine. On purchasing i only had 70% throttle such was how loose the connection was.
Do i need to remove the plenum chamber to get to this? Searching some earlier threads on here, some have mentioned removing the throttle brackets, but i 'm bu**ered if i can get spanners in there to do it. Any pics would be most welcomed :-)
If i need to remove the plenum, is this easy? Or do I need new gaskets etc when refitting?
Also - for some reason i have an earth cable (well looks like an earth) cable connected to the plenum bolt. The plenum being Aluminum I'm guessing its gaining something from the bolt that goes into the engine. Looking at other engine bays pics this is quite unusual.
Thanks Chim owners.

Personally I removed the plenum when I fitted a new cable. Way easier as far as I was concerned in gaining access to all the brackets at the back of it. Just the 6 Allen headed bolts, bend the mesh of the wiper grill a touch and it fits out. Worth disconnecting the stepper motor wiring as well to be extra safe, takes a couple of seconds.
Not sure what you mean about an earth strap to the top of the plenum... The coil should attach to the front most off side bolt, but thats on its own bracket and pretty obvious what it is. As far as I'm aware the only earth points on the actual engine are below/behind the alternator/belt tensioner bracket and into the nearside head at the very rear (pretty much directly under all the throttle cable gubbins you're looking to adjust).
Oh and just a last note. If you want to remove the entire cable and think the plenum end is a challenge, can't wait to see what you think of it all when trying to crawl under the pedals in the footwell to disconnect it at that end...
Edit: Few pics here at the start showing the plenum etc form different angles. There are other pics as well but can't remember which section I put them in at the moment.

Why do people do this .. it makes the mesh look pants for the rest of the life of the car. It's just lazy.Remove the 6 plenum allen bolts and then lift the plenum up so you can access the 6 bolts which hold the trumpet base on. Once they are released remove the trumpet base and plenum as one unit .. no need to bend the grille into an unsightly mess. I've seen dealers do it by bending the mesh, if that was my car I'd be getting them to replace the mesh they'd just butchered.
Will give it a go none the less. I’m sure if gentle, all will work fine.
The less parts removed the better I’ve always found.
I wonder how grubby it is in there too, no doubt a good clean will make some difference. The throttle butterfly was pretty bad when cleaning from the outside.

These cables become sticky due to wear caused by multiple return springs resisting throttle pedal movement, with the cable taking some tight curves. I oiled mine by removing the cable from the throttle linkage and dripping oil between the cable and sheath while working the cable back and forth. Several owners, me included, have elected to reduce the spring resistance by removing one of the pair of springs acting directly on the cable link. There are three return springs, four if you include the TPS spring. Removing one spring is perfectly safe and actually improves throttle control and feel
