Hi Guys,
I was out at the weekend with some old friends. While chatting and reminiscing, we vaguely remembered a trip to a motor museum possibly a private collection. The only problem is, we can’t remember what the place was called or exactly where it was. We know that it closed within a couple of years of our visit and that it would be somewhere north of Birmingham but south of Manchester. Also, that the visit would have been between 1990 and 1998, plus or minus a couple of years.
Can anyone suggest which museum/collection it was and where it was located? All positive responses, to aid the fading memory of this old fart would be gratefully received.

Sure it wasn’t Donnington. We’d be there to watch some motor racing, but never to the museum.
Thanks anyway.

Patrick Motor Group had a large collection, not sure if it was open to the public, and if so where...

It would help to know what sort of cars you saw there. Could it have been the Patrick Collection, which was in the Birmingham area?

Did you go to the Peter Black Collection, which I think was in Keighley?

Yes, that looks like it. It was housed in their old textile factory on a random back street in Keighley. I remember it being tightly-packed with lots of American cars, as well as several Jowetts as you mention, which were made locally. It wasn't strictly open to the public, but could be visited by appointment. My dad and I turned up unannounced some time in the late 80s after I'd seen the place on Blue Peter, and the lady on reception had to make a couple of phone calls before letting us in to wander around unattended.

I can remember the owner had a “back room” not open to the public. He took us round there too.

I think that place only opened recently, so not in the right timescale for the OP.

There was also the Skopos motor museum in Batley.

Not sure it's still open, I went about 15 years ago. It had a very cool orange early Countach, but not a great deal else.

Thanks for all the responses guys. I think we have a winner……
The Midlands Motor museum.
It fits in terms of the location, the vehicles and possibly the time of the visit.
Thanks again, have a virtual pint on me!

From one Gary to another. Glad I could help.

Not sure if the museum is still open. The previous owner had a somewhat chequered history
