and are they any good or are we talking designer cases on cheapo movements?

Depends on the model they do use the Selitta sw200 a fair bit, it's cheap but a workhorse and reliable movement and the choice of many brands at this price point

They also bought into Synergies Horologeres https://www.watch-wiki.net/doku.php?id=synergies_h... to use some of their movements plus manufacturer in Switzerland means you can get a cosc rating

They publish what movement each watch has in the tech specs.

Nothing wrong with using commercially available movements.
