I'm looking to get a ''new old car''

i currently have a ford fiesta zetec s 2005 with just over 70k miles on the clock. It isn't in perfect condition. I'm not sure how much this car is worth but the dealership is saying around £700 - £1000 part ex value.

i want to get a fn2 type r with around 90k miles on the clock ( £4999 ) now I cant afford to buy the car out right so ill have to get a loan for the remaining total.

would this be a wise choice to part ex my car for the the Honda?

I'd say the Civic is definitely an upgrade fun-wise so I don't think you'd regret it when you're driving it, but I had thought you could get them quite a bit cheaper than £5k - mind you I haven't looked for a year now.

If you're prepared to wait, you may find you can sell your car for more privately than the part/ex, but the dealer is providing you a quicker option. Only you can answer that one.

You could probably get £1200-1400 selling the Fiesta privately, depending on condition

FN2 seems like a reasonable bet, as the cheapest Type R and since the drivetrain was carried over from the EP3, there don't seem to be many common costly faults. But suggest reading the many buying guides that are out there on the web. It may not be the absolute best £5k hot hatch, but it could well be the most reliable.

It’s not even that just the door is the wrong colour, the rear corner is clearly a different shade to the door and front corner. That car has had a lot of paint done badly and I’d want to know why.

I doubt they'll have a clue. They will tell you it's a 13 year old car with nearly 100k miles.

Don't buy an absolute wreck of a car with money that isn't yours. I'm sure your current car will cost less than £5k to keep running, and in the mean time you can save up for something that isn't hiding something that made previous owner get shot of it.

That one is not necessarily a wreck though. Red paint does fade over time so my guess is its had had some paintwork sprayed at the back quite recently using the original paint code. It just doesn't match well, there are other red ones like it if you look at a few. Might be accident damage but I doubt the dealer selling it would know.

Best thing with cars like this is to buy privately from someone who has owned it a while and kept the history. There's quite a few about so I'd keep looking. Then sell the Fiesta to WBAC and take a bank loan.

A bank loan is a good and responsible way to finance a used car.

If you can get the dealership to pay at the upper limit of their range for the Fiesta than that's probably there or there abouts.

Whether that Civic is the right one and at what price is for you to determine but whatever you buy, get an HPI check.

If it's a red Honda, then it'll be Milano Red, which becomes Milano Pink when the car is 7 or 8 years old. It could be that someone has tried to (badly) correct the inevitable paint fading.

OP with these old Type R's I strongly advise an indy inspection of your chosen car before you sign on the line
