Compensation for the hurricane...

While reading the 7/7 thread it got me thinking about the interviews from this morning about people in Birmingham moaning and wondering when the goverment are going to give tehm compensation to help them rebuild their homes. With quotes like:
'We can't afford insurance cause its too expensive'
'We kept putting it off each month, cause we didn't think it was important'
'I only insure the contents as I didn't think this would happen'
And several other moaning whingers!!
My question here is what would you say to them, mine (polite version) would be tough shit, no insurance, no payout, just because you didn't think about it, why should the goverment give you money taken from the rest of us who do pay it.
I rank these people along side the ones who don't insure cars, you got caught out, tough, live with it.

The trouble is the taxpayers will end up paying for it either way - either through comp payout or through finding the homeless council housing.
The problem is that as a civilised nation should be not help out the less fortunate? Part of me says 'yes of course so' while the other part of me says 'sod them, they should have bought insurance like I do'. A tough one IMO.

Were do you draw the line though, people know they should take insurance out for this kind of thing, through neglect or ignorance they haven't.

Hurricanes are merely an act of high/low pressure.
To prove an act of god, you would first have to prove the existence of a god.... IMO of course.

Fromn the reports I have just read there was only minor damage ,what are they claiming for or are they just trying it on.
