Open pipes in my Chim Engine

Was just installing the Caerbont Water Temp sensor and noticed these two 'open' pipes nearby. Could anyone tell me what they are and should they be connected to anything?

Just guessing, but as they are plastic, water feed and return to the cabin heater?

Pipes are not used on TVRs. Its a plenum heater.

Thanks, but it was just a guess as they look like water pipes.
