sprained ankle :(
Discussion
Can be sore for quite a while if there's ligament damage.
My advice would be not to over do it so you dont cause more damage and hinder healing. Take painkillers/anti-inflamatories if you need to and if it's not improving go and see your doc (unless one pops up here with better advice!)

Depends on whether your putting in a claim for compensation.
If its your own fault, then probably a few weeks at most.
If your claiming from the local Highways Authority for falling into a hole which is more akin to a trench (complete with warring Japanese Soldiers), then probably years. In fact youll never recover from it. You cant work, your libido has decreased & you need constant 24 hour care, even when your asleep. Oh & you need a specially modified house to live in due to your debilitating injury, somewhere overlooking Sydney Harbour would be quite nice.

Yep, turned mine badly playing football (& indeed playing football badly) a couple of years ago and it took absolutely ages to get better (still hurts now occaisionally). I never really gave it a chance to heal though.
One crazy but useful exercise I used to do was to stand on one foot (the bad one) while cleaning your teeth. Its much harder than it sounds and great for building up weakened muscles.

All sounds like pretty good advice to me. Ligament damage can take a long time to heal with ankle injuries as a lot of weight is placed on each ankle, therefore it's under stress for a long time. If it's been a month, I would go and see your GP, just for a quick examination, to make sure there's no significant ligament damage.

How long should a sprained ankle hurt for lol did it over a month ago now and it still hurts, its ok to walk on but if i try and run its abit sore.any doctors in here?
My advice for all people with sprained ankles is not to run on them until the Ashes Test series is over.
Seriously is it is still hurting, it will need strapping, complete rest and anti-inflammatories. I did this once while in a forest in Finland and went back to work, it took fifteen months to atop hurting!!
I tore the ligaments in my ankle in June 2004. I had phsysio for 6 weeks and it still took about 8 months before it stopped being painful to walk on, and still swells up if I walk around on it for too long (like all day). If I don't exercise it for a week or so it starts to ache.
The best thing to do, (especially if it's torn ligaments) is to keep exercising it, but don't OVER exercise it.
My advice is that if it hurts to run, then don't run on it YET, but do make sure you get out walking on it every day.

Well, I needed to move it a few feet around the driveway and couldn't be arsed to start it. So I pushed it, but my right foot (in high traction rubber soled boots!) got stuck under the door sill. Inertia took its course and by the time it stopped, my foot was at an unnatural angle to my leg. I didn't actually go over it with the wheel.

I don't see why not. You seem to be as sharp as a new pin, if you wanted to do it, I don't see any reason why you couldn't....... perhaps you should apply to med school, I bet you'd make a much better student than most of the dimwits that I teach in the teaching hospital.
