Car failed mot on account of poor handbrake 90 / 40. Trusted mot station whose mot'd it for years. Have got at the adjuster, but it really only makes a difference to the offside wheel. Nearside does tighten up, but I can still turn the wheel with a bit of effort. Does this sound like new cable time? Iif so, anyone got ford part number. Thanks

Sounds like caliper overhaul/replace time to me.

Yep, piston wont extend on either hand brake cable or brake pedal, although it can be wound in and out quite easily

I bought brand new rear calipers and mintex pads for mine, adjusted the cable .. and it's still as ste as it ever was.... barely scrapes through the MOT.

I'd love to sort it properly, there's just not enough travel on the lever.

My Griffith parking brake was really poor when I first got the car. It only did about 2 clicks and would not hold the car. I have adjusted it to bite around 5 clicks and it will fully hold the car on a steep hill now. Secret is not to have it too tight.

About 4/5 clicks works well for me, plus bringing the pads up to the disc with the footbrake first also seems to help.
