Just purchased a new monitor :

https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B08R41FCWB/ref...

I'm using it through from my laptop through a docking station hdmi

I've loaded up youtube and sky go through it and it doesnt seem to be performing as well as the laptop screen. Is that because its going through the docking station? or is there something I need to change?

Why the dock and not just plug it straight in via HDMI to the laptop?

Have you got the screen set up to 'Extend These Displays' as this allows native resolution on all screens. This can be accessed through Display settings.

What do you mean by "it doesnt seem to be performing as well as the laptop screen"?

Ghosting? Lag? Poor colours? Fuzzy? Pixelated?

Yeah seems to be a huge lag.

It’s the whole pint of a docking station.

I've got the docking station so I can keep a keyboard and mouse plugged in and all I have to do it plug either my work laptop or my personal one in. I'm wondering now if the docking station is causing the lag

Fair yeah, I've got similar set up just with a USB C hub instead of a dock.

I meant more so to try the screen direct into the laptop and see how that is.

If issue goes away might be a driver issue with the dock where they need updating.

What dock are you using?

Also, I've had slow response from a monitor before when I used an awfully old HDMI cable I found. Is yours HDMI 2.0 min?

I'll try plugging straight into laptop later and see what it does.

I'm using a Kensington sd3500v

That looks to use DisplayLink to get a display over a USB connection, which isn't a good fit for fast changing images/movies, as opposed to some which use DisplayPort Alt mode over USB C, which works fine.

If the laptop has a USB C port with a stylised P next to it or a lightning bolt symbol then either look for a dock that supports DisplayPort, or just plug the laptop directly in to the display.

just connected straight to new monitor from laptop. I can change the refresh rate to 144hz. Whereas when i'm connected through the docking station it's only 85hz.

Not sure if that will be part of the problem or not

Ok, so may have to change docking station then?

the laptop just has 3 USB ports, 2 of which has SS then a symbol
