Help to identify electrical part

I found this completley disconnected under the bonnet of my old defender years ago, but I have no idea what its for or what it does?

I thought it was some sort of power distribution hub, but there doesn't seem to be any electrical link between the large studs on the top[url]

Have a hunch it will be a polarity reverser for a winch motor
