Recommend a wide-brimmed hat

I’ve got git me a wide-brimmed hat! Yee Ha. Now as much as I’d like to be a cowboy I have to be realistic.



I seem to remember a thread where a lot of people had good options for belts. Anyone similar for hats? Reason being I spend some weekends outside all day exposed to the elements and I need to stay out the sun in general (similar to being out all day at brands hatch - you don’t feel it until you get home, neck etc can be severe red/burnt). So a baseball cap is not sufficient.

(My problem is sun, not rain)

Any pointers?

Another vote for Tilley here, I’ve got one of the broad brim airflows for cricket watching. Just be aware that some of their stuff is made in China, lest you think you’re paying for a Canadian made product which would go some way to justifying the some what high price for hat.

I was given a Borges and Scott panama as a birthday present. Rolls up into a tube to go into suitcase. Huge range of all sorts of hats

I'm outdoors most of the day, with temperatures up to 40 degrees in the summer. Drawstring for a snug fit, plus chin strap for when it's especially windy. Still looks new after a couple of years.

It may not have a fancy label, but I can't fault it.

Another shout for Tilley... I've got a T3 wanderer.

Does a good job at keeping the sun off when you're walking all day in the sun. I did want a black leather bushman hat but it'd be too hot for wearing in the sun (whilst doing some serious walking) and I've got a very big head and couldn't find one in the UK or Europe that'd fit me.

So if you've got a big head, go for Tilley.

Problem with a lot of these hats is the brim is floppy and spends most of its time not doing its job.
They may look daft, but cowboy hats work, mine came from Death Valley though, so it's a long way to go to get one

Another Tilley fan here.

I have worn mine in all weathers:

Skiing in Scotland
Summer walking in Scotland (not much different from winter skiing TBH)
Lying on a sunny beach overseas
Sailing on the West Coast of Scotland

Needs washing periodically to remove sweat from the headband which is prone to rotting. The "lifetime guarantee" is IMHO a bit of a con as they insist you destroy the existing hat before they pay out, even for damage that could be repaired to a degree, so makes a mockery of any sustainability claims the manufacturer might make.
