Hey, I've tried to re-gas my 2017 i10 using aircontopup.com r1234yf gas. I followed the instructions and topped up while running the Aircon on full (having left it 10 mins). While doing it the compressor cut out and now it keeps trying to start while the pressure is fluctuating between 30 and 40 psi each time it tried to start. What should I do? Have I somehow broken the compressor?
Thanks in advance!

You should now do what you should have done in the first place.

Take it somewhere that will do it properly.

There are many issues with "topping it up" at home.

1. There will likely be air in the system as you didn't evacuate it first.

2. You have no idea how much gas you have put in it.

3. There will likely be water in the system if it has been flat for a while and that will lead to internal corrosion.

Just to name a few.

I have used that product a LOT, and regassed literally dozens of cars with it. The product is excellent, and the procedure is straightforward but like anything else the first time you do it you are on a bit of a learning curve. That product will re-gas from empty even without a vacuum so there isn’t a problem there; it sounds to me like you have slightly over gassed the car and now the compressor is cutting out.

You’ll need to reduce the pressure slightly in order to stop the compressor doing that.

1234yf systems are very sensitive to being over gassed, and if you open the tap too quickly it is easy to over do it.

Hope that helps.

Thanks, I wondered that but didn't want to touch anything without checking! I turned the car on the next morning and it was working really really cool so I'll see how it goes next time I go on a longer trip!
