The project now continues into a sticking front Left brake calliper.
Stripped it down and found some surface rust around calliper piston where it had obviously been stuck for some time.. free’d up and back onto the car.
Still sticking! Grrrr. Not to mention new nipple also leaking which is frustrating. I’ll remove and strip again and this time fit a new seal kit also in the hopes this saves me buying a pair of new calipers. Slight mystery as everything appeared to be working smoothly before refitting and before the test drive.

Does/can anyone recommend a good source for seals and even, worst case scenario brake callipers? Budget is not massive but pretty important item so needs to work properly. Searching Ford Sierra calliper parts throws up all sorts of suppliers. Can anyone reccomend?

Slowly but surely, piston heads will help me on every niggle.

Thanks all

Definitely just change the seals if the piston is clean, it’s the seal that pulls the piston back when you release the brake, I got mine from Bigred

Exact same thing happened to me 3 weeks ago. I replaced both front callipers using Bigg Red reconditioned units. They don’t stock them - I had to send off the two off the car and they turned them around in about 2 weeks. As ever they did a good job.

So if anyone else was following on Facebook. After eventually changing both front callipers, it turns out the problem persisted. Grrrr
Purchased a cortina mk4 brake hose and fitted today…..result! All appears to be working now.

What a pain, the cheapeast part was the cure. New callipers were only £60 for the pair anyway (presuming I get my surcharge back for the return of the old set) so not the end of the world and now have new brakes.

Happy to share the links for the suppliers of anyone needs them.

So what’s the logic behind the brake hose causing this problem?

Depends on the type of hose, of course but.......

What could occur is the lining of the hose failing and making a flap causing the fluid only to flow one way and not releasing the hyd' pressure. This happened to a car of mine many years ago and eventually developed to the point that the lining failed even further and made a flap that prevented the brake at the end of that hose from operating.
New hose cured it.

cool

Logic, wish there was logic.

But essentially the hose degrades on the inside and hard for the fluid to flow. The brake pressure when pushing the pedal is plenty high enough to operate the brakes, but the hose won’t allow the fluid to flow back easily and cause the piston to stick.

It’s a pain, the new hose was only £12.50! 🤦🏼‍♂️
