I was informed yesterday by SWMBO that the passenger door wasn't unlocking on our E91, all the other doors are fine and if you use the handle on the inside of the door the door it will open and the little lock indicator will pop up, it will lock fine on remote, anyone had any experience of this?

Does this sound like the lock mechanism\actuator or possibly something simpler?

Actuators work in 2 motions, if one is stuffed it could be the issue.

I had this on a 2015 Audi q3 and apparently quite common on that VAG platform. Solution was new solenoid but in my case a few firm taps with my hand on inside and out seemed to reset / release any issues and it never came back afterwards.

It was identical to as you describe and something to do with wires being pinched in the door panel.

I know a completely different car and model but the firm taps when in lock / unlock state seemed to release whatever was sticking without the need for any expensive parts or repair service.

Thanks for the replies, I have read that it could be as simple as a lubrication issue so have purchased some trim removal tools and will see what is happening under the covers.

I bet you £150 it’s the actuator that’s faulty. £150 being the price of a new actuator for my F30, which unlike yours sometimes doesn’t lock despite the pin always popping down!

Actuator, had the same on mine. £20 for a good one from a scrappy and about half an hour to change.

Worth checking the fuses as well as a slightly sticky actuator can blow them. There’s a BMW SB to upgrade Fuse 57 (depends on year of cars, later ones it’s 73 IIRC, Googling required) to 20A.
