LinkedIn - How can I stop the spam/sales messages?

I find LinkedIn useful. Especially in my industry, so simply binning it off isn't an option, but I'm getting sick of all the spam and sales messages I receive.

Is there a way to block the spam and sales without blocking the occasional messages from recruiters and other people in my line of work? (Who I may not be connected/linked to already)

Edited to add, I'm not a Premium member if that makes a difference.

Best defence is to never connect with anyone you haven't worked with or done business with. Requests to connect cost the spammers nothing, if they have to pay for an in-Mail they are more likely to be be serious, and even then a "sorry, not interested" should be fine. And regularly purge your contacts list - they won't be notified

I switched to premium about two years ago and whilst I still get unsolicited messages, it is noticeably less (one a week or thereabouts) and some have actually been useful. May be worth looking at.

Other than that, I think it's just one of those things you have to suck up.

How does Premium cut down on spam messages and requests to connect from salespeople?

I did try Premium, but it's a crazy amount of money to pay each month to see which salespeople and recruiters have read a profile

I have no idea and cannot say that the two are related, only that I noticed a drop when I went premium.

I wondered what the benefits of Premium were, though I guess they wouldn't resolve my issue with LinkedIn: I keep getting recruiters who read my profile, but completely ignore that I'm looking for part time work. Also when I search for part time jobs a high number of them aren't unless 40 hours a week is considered part time(!).

I'm finishing my current job soon, but due to the various cost of living rises I'll probably need to do something to top my income up at least for the next three years, but don't want to end up back in a similar stressful role I'm leaving. Just seems that unless you're an ambitious high flyer that it's not really the platform for someone like me.

For an individual, it's probably not worth the money.

I run a business and use the learning tools and the ability to see who's been looking at our profiles for pro-active, targeting marketing.

I've been a "Premium" member since @2007 - it costs me @£4 per month - they regularly try to get me to "upgrade" to some sort of new premium account which charges over £40 per month - just so I can see the "recruiters" who look at my profile - sod that

I occasionally get unsolicited sales messages which I either ignore, or if they persist get told to f-ck right off, sometimes I try to be as abusive as possible too. Once or twice I've even invited said individuals to report me to LinkedIn as they said they would do - even pointing out such cold calling is against the rules at time, no one ever has. I have reported such people to LinkedIn

How any are you getting? Without counting, I reckon I average a couple a day, and half of those are from Linkedin with various "celebrating anniversary" etc type messages. It's no great hardship to glance at them and delete.
