Hi all,

I need a second SIM for my second phone in order to activate a specific app. Beyond the activation process, I just need an active SIM that can take inbound calls, but I have no need for outbound calls or data usage.

What is the best provider for this situation? Ideally I want credit that will last 6 - 12 months as well, so I'm not having to top up each month.

Thanks!

I have a 3 sim in the car that lasts for 24mths. Cost something like £30.

Has 24gb of data. Not sure what call allowances but it can receive them.

Asda PAYG sims don’t expire, providing you make an outbound call, text or use a bit of data once every 6 months.

So a simple 4p text to yourself twice a year would suffice (8p / year).

Thank you. Would you happen to know the name of the package? In my experience the 3 SIMs expire after around 6 months

O2 'Classic' SIM (3p 2p 1p - calls, texts, Mb data). Cost 99p, load with £10 to activate then it lasts forever from what I understand, no 6 month / 12 month expiry.
Loads on eBay - find one that ships 2 SIMS (one spare) for 99p from this lot:

I use 1p Mobile for my longterm emergency phone.
That's what I use for a "gateway device" I have at my apiary. It's used to push data from my beehives to the gateway onto the internet.

Seeing the above, I've just checked on the O2 SIM and:

Classic Pay As You Go
With Classic Pay As You Go, you pay for what you use, as you go. The minimum top up requirement is £10.

If you don't top up, or add a Bolt On at least once in any six month period, your mobile will be disconnected and you'll lose any credit on your account. If you want to be reconnected you'll be given a new mobile number.
So it's £20 per year minimum for them - mind you, once you've paid the initial £10, you might be able to top up with only £5 possibly...
