Amazon Monthly Payments

I need a new laptop and Amazon are the simplest and cheapest option unless the Apple Store price match if you walk in.

If I do use Amazon they're offering 5x monthly payments.

I could just buy it but there doesn't seem to be any catch to this and it doesn't look like it's a credit agreement or anything like that.

Not a credit agreement.

No interest, they just see you as a valued reliable customer.

If you don't finish paying, they brick the device of it a computer, tablet, or phone.

Currently paying off an expensive coffee machine using their monthly payments. Have used it numerous times in the past which proves very handy and saves paying interest using the credit card if I don't pay it all off in one go.

I bought Vikingette2's MacBook Pro using it. I bought it in their October "sale" and by the time her birthday came around in December, I'd already paid 3 of the 5 payments.

I find it brilliant for buying things that I wouldn't routinely purchase and without a lot of dithering, and I imagine Amazon know this, a DJI action camera and a a Thule roofbox. The roofbox is therefore ready when/if we need it in the summer. Using manmaths, assuming I didn't purchase , it keeps more money in The Bank of Viking each month.

Bought the OH a new iPhone for Mothers Day

Took the advantage of Amazon offering 12 month payment for the device. Only issue i have with it is the payment plan is every 30 days not on a specific day of the month so by the time of the last payment it is half way in the month rather than the end of the month.

Oddly the debit card verification thing triggered which is fine I guess it's the value but I wonder how that works with the recurring payments

Amazon offer mumflies to regular customers to tip them into buying high value goods such as iPhones, iPads and Macs. For example, my Thule Roofbox was £550ish. I may or may not need one this summer, so I would be dithering. But at £109 per month with no interest it's a comfortable way to purchase.

There are also a lot of monthly payment offers on things that are last season - for instance if they have lots of 2021 laptops that have been superceded by 2022 models.

I've only had one problem with recurring payments when I got a new bank card and I couldn't update it to be the new payment method for the recurring payments (selecting use this card as preferred doesn't work and only applies to new purchases and the online agent didn't know what to do either) and they debited one of my credit cards instead 14 days later so no biggie.

Handy if it’s something you were buying, but I can’t help that it makes people buy stuff they wouldn’t normally buy
