The petrol tank on my classic van sprung a leak, I had filled the tank and parked up on my driveway for a couple of weeks using my daily driver. When the day dawned to use my classic I found that my tankful of petrol had seeped into the tarmac.
Just sent the tank to a radiator repair outfit in Cornwall, they also repair fuel tanks. I hope that they are as good as they say they are and I don’t get back a botch job. I have nightmares about those ‘slosh’ repair liquids.
Couldn’t find a new tank replacement so it was repair or a bespoke tank to be manufactured.

Definitely the tank rather than a hose/sender etc?

Unfortunately yes it’s the tank, the sender is on the top of this particular tank so I was able to discount that quickly. Found a large patch of putty goo at the tank base where previous owners had bodged a repair (thanks for that) rolleyes and painted the bodge over with black mastic. My guess is a number of pinholes as the tank does seem to be rust free. Famous last words.
The repairer will be back to me to report findings and offer prices for repair. I will post back as and when.

The tank has now been fully repaired, they found and patch repaired the damaged areas and tank is good for another thirty years +. New tank was around £400, repairs £270.
